Beats for EveryBody: A Beatmaking Workshop
Workshops at the Kitchener Public Library March 13, 2024 Get over the technology and locate your creativity at Beats for EveryBody—an inclusive electronic music workshop. Hosted by electronic music educator and advocate Aimee Copping, this workshop will show you how to build wild beats from found sounds. This is a hands-on workshop that gives participants the experience of making original loops by sampling objet trouvé, household objects, broken toys and twisted junk. Visit the EMOM website The concept is simple – the event provides a meeting and performance space for electronic musicians of all styles and persuasions. -EMOM website Electronic Music Open Mic Series The fourth Kitchener EMOM is scheduled for July 20th, 2024 at Counterpoint Brewing in Kitchener, 6-10 pm. This is an ALL AGES event! Non-alcoholic beverages and food and hand crafted deep dish pizza available on site as well as the wonderfully brewed craft beers from Counterpoint Brewing. As always, various prizes will be available. $5.00 donation preferred, but we offer a pay what you can model. Book your tickets Scheduled Performers (so far!) The goal of the TCSS is to support the creative exploration of music, sound and technology. Each performer participating in the EMOM is given about 15-20 minutes to perform their set and anyone who wishes to take part is welcome. The only requirement is that you contact us in advance and send us a few samples of your work. Any genre of electronic music is welcome – from ambient soundscapes to hard industrial techno and everything in between. The only stipulation is that the primary sound sources should be electronic (ie. no acoustic instruments unless they are used as triggers or sampling sources). The TCSC is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive space to explore musical synthesis and we welcome everyone who is interested, regardless of their level of expertise. Indeed, if you are curious about synthesizers, this is the place to start! You don’t need to perform. Just come and enjoy the music and ambience. Tickets are only $5 with all the proceeds going to cover the cost of the event. Students are free and you can also pay by donation. Tickets are also available at the door.

Synth Building Workshop April 8-June 17, 2024 We a looking for up to 10 participants to participate in a research study on community learning. Over a 10 week period, participants will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of electronic circuitry and build their very own modular synthesizer, as provided by Erica Synths – one of the key players modular synthesizer manufacturing.
